Congregations Acting for Justice and Empowerment, or CAJE, is an organization made up of 22 faith communities. These diverse congregations represent thousands of concerned citizens in Vanderburgh, Warrick and Posey counties in southwestern Indiana. Their mission is to draw together people of faith to act powerfully to address local community issues through processes of relationship building, direct action, and negotiation with decision-makers.
Amy DeVries is currently serving as the organization’s Leading Organizer, and spoke briefly about the history of CAJE and one of the topics that CAJE is looking at today: Mental Health Providers. Amy walked our group through the organization’s ‘Listening’ & ‘Research’ process before handing out CAJE’s Organizational Calendar.
Yvonne Martin told the group her personal story of her son’s experiences that led up to him being admitted to an autism center in St. Louis; Dana Funkhouser spoke about the relationship between public schools and parents with autistic children; Colleen York addressed CAJE membership and what is expected of you if you are a member.
Autism Evansville greatly appreciates these 4 women who took time out to speak to our parents and caregivers. It was a well attended meeting, with lots of great discussion and questions. If you have any questions, or would like to learn more about CAJE, please visit their Facebook Page or their website.
