Your First Steps After Receiving an Autism Spectrum Disorder Diagnosis

My child has been diagnosed with ASD. What do I do now?

Autism Spectrum Disorder, commonly referred to as ASD, is defined per the CDC as a lifelong neurodevelopmental disability that affects how people interact and communicate.
While this diagnosis is lifechanging, it’s important to remember to meet your child where they are.
As your child’s safe parent/guardian, educate yourself to be their best advocate, and provide extra tools, love and support needed for your child to thrive.

Your family now has the diagnosis needed in hand to open the following doors to receive the proper services and support.

Call our local Bureau of Disabilities Service (BDS) office to have your child (if under the age of 18) placed on the waitlist for the Family Supports Waiver.

The office will conduct an interview with you to ensure your child meets the eligibility requirements.

Call or apply online with the options below.

Have you already filled out the forms? Check your application dates on the Bureau of Developmental Services Portal.
